![]() Please delete this and give us some actual inspiration. It is a rude \\\"hey this should be easy\\\" post inspired by design as an aesthetic function rather then a practical one. This device cannot be anchored in the locations specified due to height of water column, This device cannot work for so many reasons totally obvious to anyone that has actually worked in, on, or around the ocean. This device is vulnerable to surface debris. This needs to go away, it has zero ability to do what is described. We expect the feasibility study to be ready for publication around the end of this year. ![]() We kindly request the press to refrain from any further publication, until all assumptions of this concept have been confirmed. Please stay tuned for this study, which will be published online in several months' time. Although the preliminary results look promising, and our team of about 50 engineers, modellers, external experts and students is making good progress, we had and have no intention of presenting a concept as a feasible solution while still being in investigative phase. Only after finishing that study, we believe such statements should be made. This is an incorrect statement we are currently only at about halfway our feasibility study. The last couple of months several (spontaneous) articles have been published, claiming The Ocean Cleanup Array is a 'feasible method' of extracting plastic from the gyres. EDUCATION and ACTION! Ok, enough ramblings from me. In regards to the environment, I personally will remain positive, do what I can, and believe in other humans to do their part. But, to take things in a positive direction, would we have become this environmentally conscious (although we could be better still) if we had not made it to this current environmental state? We did not know what we were doing, and now we will work to fix it. In my opinion, population is the real issue. clean up is necessary, AS WELL AS reducing/stopping our plastic use, but that's an entirely separate issue to solve in an entirely different way. And, although this project does not address the issue of over-use of single-use plastics, even if we stopped manufacturing plastic today, the current abundance of plastic would still be out in the ocean. Thus, removing the larger plastic items will reduce the amount of small plastics present in the ocean. where do you think those small particles come from? The breaking down of the larger plastic materials. To those who feel this project (a great step in the right direction) should be aimed at the small plastic particles that are being eaten by ocean animals. ![]() I love these topics, and never comment, but feel the urge. I have thought about how to clean trash that IS already out there because the coast cleanup, putting my own trash in trash cans or recycling efforts has not changed what the MASS is doing but like the garbage person who comes to pickup my recycles and trash humanity needs to work on a tiered solution. ![]() So this young man\\\'s idea and WORK he has done is AWESOME. the things we do to ourselves only WE can. LOL, "GOD" can\\\'t solve, hunger, genocide, etc. Like anything after a mess up we cleanup or solution WILL NOT BE just you and I doing the right thing but educating and incorporating global change. This is going to be a tier level solution: awareness, prevention, laws, international unity, retention, disposal, recycling so on. He needs to talk to tech geeks to include heavy current water ways.Īnd to the negative sayers, we need ALL THE IDEAS. I am not a tech geek, but his concept is a good one. Perhaps as low current streams and lakes where people beach as an added tier to collecting trash as it leaves off shores into major water streams. This young man has a good concept of one tier. Ocean pollution solution is going to have have tiers.
